EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) – Highway 49 was closed near the county line between Amador and El Dorado counties overnight when a vehicle carrying two people drove down and embankment.
According to CHP Officer Rich Wetzel, just before 2 a.m., the vehicle drove off the road and down a 200-foot embankment. Fortunately, neither person inside the car was injured.
When responding officers arrived at the vehicle, they found two others that were abandoned and not believed to be part of today’s incident.
Highway 49 was temporarily closed while a tow truck used both lanes to pull the vehicles up the extremely slippery slope.
Wetzel says the cause of today’s incident not icy or wet roads, but the driver failing to properly negotiate the turn.
